A Novel Algorithm to Detect Broken Bars in Induction Motors

A new algorithm is proposed in order to detect and quantify partially broken bars induction motors during start-up without load. In the qualification process, no threshold used. It uses principle of harmonic generated by bar stator current, it should vary with slip confirm failure provide more security diagnosis. severity index also proposed, based on maximum peaks Teager energy operator Gaussian filter applied current signal. Experimental data were used validate algorithm, comparing rotors manufactured one bar, failed two completely bars, arranged a variety ways. The results show that qualifies correctly faulty even for bar. quantification phase, fault shows higher sensibility comparison state-of-the-art.
